Something I learned because of this card: As great as the photo used for this card is, Herrera is not credited with any runs scored in the game. He is coming in waaaay too hot to have been held at third. When I looked closer at the boxscore, it says he was thrown out at the plate after trying to score from first on a Freddy Galvis. For the last out in the 9th. Of a tie game. Ugh.
And a deeper search found that he was indeed held by the third base coach, Juan Samuel, but blew through only to be thrown out by a mile. Whoops. (There's a video in the article I linked, but I won't post it here.) Apparently, base running was an ongoing issue.
This is Herrera's second Opening Day card. He appeared in 2016 but was passed over last year.
The same photo was used for Herrera's Series 1 card and Factory Team Set card.
Cubs Ties?: None
